I’m starting tomorrow and I’m a bit nervous. I need some advice and I have a few questions
They didn’t give us any information on what to wear so what should I wear if I’m going to a media centre?? Will they go a bit easy on us or will they just throw us into it and expect us to know and be good at it? Will they be harsh with us?
I’m sorry for the stupid questions I’m just a bit nervous. I want some advice and see how your first Praktikum was like

2022.01.16 15:22 basic_info YSK shrink-flation is just as bad as inflation, but sometimes harder to identify!
Why YSK: Shrink-flation occurs when manufacturers and retailers keep prices the same but give you less product while the consumer is not necessarily aware that they are receiving less product.
Watch out for slightly redesigned packaging for stuff you normally buy. If the package says "new look" or "new packaging", this could be a tipoff.
For example, my family buys a particularly brand of hand soap. It cost $2.99 for a 12oz bottle for the last couple of years. Then a few weeks ago, I noticed the bottle was now 11.4oz and the price stayed the same. The "new improved package" was meant to hide the fact that you are receiving less product for your money!

Basically I do a lot of highway rides and not a lot of cornering unfortunately and after 6 months of riding I noticed that my tyre is becoming a little square-ish. I still have a lot of thread though but I’m still a bit concerned.

2022.01.16 15:22 Inadorable Chats with the Hopeful (2/2): KalvinLokan
As part of our Labour leadership election, I have decided to interview the two major candidates running to be the next Labour Leader. The second of these two interviews will be with KalvinLokan, the First Minister of Northern Ireland.
Ina: It's no secret that you have been a... controversial politician. So let me get straight to the point - what will you do differently as Labour leader than you have done in the past to avoid such controversy?
Kalvin: An active leadership team is a leadership team that avoids controversy by enabling the leader, deputy leader and chair to bounce policy, comments and debate off each other, and which we've seen when done in MQs, results in an extremely successful response to drummed up opposition controversy. Furthermore, everyone is learning a learning experience, and believe me I have had a chance to learn.
Ina: It’s interesting that you view the role of your fellow leadership as one to help avoid controversy - usually, the leader is supposed to be the one keeping the rest of the party out of controversy and backing them where necessary. Whilst no one can doubt your willingness to defend members, do you think you yourself would be able to get members out of controversy and indeed, avoid them entering such a status?
Kalvin: The role of Leadership is to back the members and each other. No one person can make every decision alone and get the best result. Leadership is there to work together, and sticking to the idea that it would be the sole (or majority) responsibility of the Leader is where an inactive leadership can cripple a party's ability to take part in politics. I've gotten members out of controversy in the PWP, I've carried the party through rough patches and taken members aside when we've needed to discuss matters privately. Whether it be by fighting the fight, putting the team on my back, or having a quiet word and apologising, I've always been willing to get us through controversy. Don't let the willingness to apologise when we need to ever let you think I won't back the party unequivocally, there isn't a genuine person in the House who would tell you I do anything less than stand up for my members through thick and thin.
Ina: The ideological position of a number of past Labour leaders have been quite well-known. I, for example, was known as a socialist, where Gregor was regarded as someone more on the right of the party. How would you describe yourself ideologically and what policies would you view as characteristic for your politics?
Kalvin: I've always put myself on the hard-left ideologically, but the soft-to-centre-left pragmatically. I'm not a dogmatic ideologue, no one has the answers for all the world's problems in their one book and it's critical that we take on perspectives from all parts of leftist thought. Union representation is a key part of policy for me. Understanding the interests of the trade unions is critical, but also so is the fundamental principle of the mixed economy. Investment should be invited, but we have to keep regulation strict, and public services, in the public hand, run for public good.
Ina: What policy position differentiates you from the other candidates?
Kalvin: I think the principle of mixed economy is going to be a heavy divide, the other candidates position themselves on the left certainly, and the notion of inviting private investment in sectors is going to get controversial when facing down the fact that there is a support to keep policy just like that of Solidarity from other candidates in many regards. Also a support for the idea that we don't just need one sides policies. Other candidates have openly stated their belief that "we are a socialist party, and we have to have socialist policy." We're a big tent party, with an alliance of every breed of leftist, and the way you build a strong party is by taking from every part of the left movement.
Ina: Do you think that members would be enthused by such a policy of encouraging private investment?
Kalvin: I don’t know. If people elect me then there is grounds to have that conversation, because its an important one to have. A mixed economy is a clear separation between us and Solidarity, and it helps deliver the best of innovation and development alongside the best of public services being run for the public.
Ina: A number of Labour members have left the party or gone inactive over the past year, including a number of people who have been quite high in the party, such as Chief Whip NeatSaucer and former leader model-kyosanto. Would you try to work to bring them back, or do you think that we should look inward towards the future of our party, rather than those who led it in the past?
Kalvin: People move on; some will come back on their own as I did after a travel through other parties, but the fact is that when you take that leap elsewhere, it isn't the job of the party to keep to the old to bring you back, we have to keep moving forward and build a future where the ideas of here and now, to face the issues of hear and now are the driving principle behind our party.
Ina: There has been talk during this election of finally implementing a number of internal reforms to improve the functioning of the Labour party. Some of these have been tried in the past, such as the mentorship programme, whilst others are newer and untested, like giving every member of leadership a clear role. Do you have any ideas of what could be done yourself?
Kalvin: There is always talk of reform, for me what is most important is that such reform comes through a membership vote, not ever through the dictats of leadership. On the specific ones, mentorship is an idea I championed last time I was in Labour, and indeed I mentored newer members in the party and in the PWP when I left. As for specificity in roles, of course we need clear lines in Leadership, but also a broad portfolio for the entire group so that they have a collective, as well as individual responsibility.
Ina: A membership vote on implementing certain programmes like mentorship and leadership responsibilities seems a bit excessive, no? Surely the NEC should have the ability to decide these kinds of policies themselves?
Kalvin: I very much disagree. A mentorship program needs people who want to be involved, and needs those who will be mentored to want it. Creating a mentorship program without party support is asking for the program to fail. The precedent is that the NEC would create a plan for such policy, and that goes to membership, not the NEC deciding on a rule addition. Role responsibilities is the same for different reasons. At the end of the day, party members need to support the leadership candidates doing what they are doing, and the NEC deciding that a Leader has a job that members don't want them to have is asking for disunity on it. The NEC drafts recommendations, and the party votes on it. Party democracy on party rules is key and I would be very concerned if efforts were made to circumvent membership on matters like this.
Ina: Is it circumventing the membership if candidates are elected running on clear policy platforms?
I can promise a hundred things as Leader. And if 51 of them were things people liked and elected me because of, I wouldn’t have a mandate as Leader to then implement everything without consultation. The party is democratic socialist, which means membership voices aren’t a by-product of the party, but they are the party, and they’re a critical part of it. My platform isn’t just on mentorship programs, if it was, then you could argue that winning on the first ballot would be a clear mandate. But I’m not, there are more than one things to be run on, and I can’t claim to know exactly what the membership thinks until they are asked.

2022.01.16 15:22 akairyu777 Is it weird that I'm the kind of person who just gets more hyped when I hear/read spoilers on a certain movie/episode?
I noticed this trait of mine a year ago. I have friends who were really against spoilers, but for me I didn't mind them (though I wouldn't spoil to anybody who didn't ask for it). In contrast to my friends, I was just more hyped to see how the spoilers would play out.
